Fiesta of the Virgin of the Sea

On the Saturday closest to July 16, the seaside town fishing town of Puntarenas holds the Fiesta of the Virgin of the Sea. It is highlighted by a parade of fishing boats that carry a statue of La Virgin del Monte Carmelo, the patron saint of the city, followed by a special mass. Other activities include parades, music, dances, regattas, with a fireworks finale. The Virgin of the Sea feast day is also celebrated in Playas del Coco.

Día de Guanacaste
In 1824 the area of Costa Rica known as Guanacaste, a part of Nicaragua, voted to become part of Costa Rica and was annexed by Costa Rica. Guanacaste is a unique part of Costa Rica with traditions and customs that differ from the rest of the country. Guanacaste Day is celebrated on July 25 and honors the traditional dress, food, and culture of Guanacaste. There are street fiestas, traditional bullfights (bloodless), topes - which are horse shows and competitions, cattle and livestock shows, and rodeos.

Mango Fiestas
|
Alajuela is known as the "city of mangos" and in late July each year they celebrate this with a fiesta that highlights local culture with parades, music, dance, crafts, and of course, a lot of food and drinks that are made from mangos. Lots of fun!
