Wave Type - Left Pointbreak
Bottom - Uneven Reef and Sand Swell Window - South to Northwest Tide - Northeast Wind - Low to Mid Playa El CarmenAbout an hour and a half after you leave the ferry you will arrive at a crossroad. Frank's place, hotel and restaurant, a longtime local landmark, will be on the right. The beach of El Carmen will be about 200m directly in front of you. A left turn takes you into Mal Pais and a left leads you along the beach to Santa Teresa and points north. Playa El Carmen is basically a long stretch of beach with a sand bottom that produces a long right break as well as a shorter lefthander. Optimum wave size is head high to three feet overhead that are usually on the outside and are big, open faces to carve. Inside sections can be fun with some barrels to be found. It breaks best at low to mid tide. |
