Since the earliest days of surfing, its colorful language has contributed new words and expressions to the English language that have become part of not only surfer's language, but of the language of non-surfers as well. While many of these surfer-coined words have become part of mainstream language, much of "surf lexicon" remains unknown to the non-surfing public, and when they hear some of the expressions they have no idea what they mean. They still, however, sound "cool" to them. This "Surf Dictionary" is our attempt to share the fantastically colorful and complex language of surfing with everyone. We at Costa Rica Surf Zone will continually update and add to our list and invite our visitors to share words and expressions that might be used in your particular areas. We will publish them on our "Surfspeak" page and give you the credit for reporting them to us. Please send us an accurate spelling, the meaning, and an example of how each word is used. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing our incredible way of communicating with all. Enjoy!!!
