Backwash
Wave Type - Right Submerged Reef
Bottom - Uneven Reef Swell Window - South to Southwest Tide - Low to Mid Wind - Northwest BackwashBackwash is a right-hand reef break situated in the middle of the incredible beautiful Backwash Bay and identified by a giant rock in the lineup. It requires head high or bigger waves for it to really work is a large, slow break that is great for longboarding but due to the steep beach, waves will jack up to create steep sections. It is a less consistant break than Matapalo but every bit as good, or better when it's working.
It is best at mid to low tides with a southwest swell. Because it is very remote and about an 1 1/2 hr trip in a 4x4 from Puerto Jimenez it is not usually crowded. It can be also be accessed by boat from Pavones or Puerto Jimenez. |
