Playa EsconditaPlaya Escondita, when its on, is a spectacular A-Frame that gives up short barreling rights and longer lefts that throw out when it is big. Waves break on a reef that produces only two peaks so it can get crowded, quickly. When there is a good swell several boatloads of surfers can arrive quickly. That it is, however, only accessible by boat or through Los Suenos Resort and that helps keep the crowds down a bit. At low tide the rock shelf sticks out and can be a little dangerous, so be careful. It is best at mid to high tide and basically unrideable at low tide. Getting There Boats are available at Playa Herradura, just north of Jaco, for $20 to $30 per person.
