                               Esterillos

Esterillos is made up of three beaches over a stretch of about 2.5 to 3 miles of beach, Esterillos Oeste (West), Centro (Central), and Este (East).

* Esterillos Oeste - Oeste is the most popular and the most surfed of the three. It is made up of a beachbreak with a rock shelf that extends several hundred meters off the beach. There is a statue of a mermaid out at the end of the shelf that is a good take-off indicator. When the tide is lower, it will break extremely far outside producing big, mushy walls that are great for longboarders. Inside the wave gets more hollow and can give some good barrels, especially at higher tides. It is a favorite spot for surfers from Jaco and Hermosa.

There is a small grocery store and a couple of restaurants/bars, and usually at least a small crowd.

* Esterillos Centro - Centro is about a two mile stretch of beach sandwiched between two rivermouths. It breaks best with a  south/southwest swell at higher tides. Centro breaks best  from chest to a foot overhead. Bigger waves will close out. It is a popular spot for locals early in the morning before the wind picks up.

* Esterillos Este - Este is the most remote of the Esterillos beaches and is rarely, if ever crowded. It is at its best with a south/southwest swell that is chest high to overhead. Este is a beachbreak that breaks only at high tide.
