Playa BonitaPlaya Bonita, 5 km north of Limon, is the primary beach in the Limon area for surfing. The bottom at Bonita, along with the rest of the area was raised by about one meter in April, 1991 by one of the strongest earthquakes to hit Costa Rica. This gave us the reef at Playa Bonita that creates a very hollow wave with large northeast swells. It is a powerful, and shallow break.
The beachbreak can get very crowded with locals and tends to close out with waves over chest high. The reef is offshore and needs a big swell. Los Tumbos, or "The Tombstones", is on the south end of the beach and is named for the rocks that it breaks into. The wave is a short, hollow right and is unforgiving. Los Tumbos is a pop[ular bodyboard spot and nor recommended for beginners. |
