Día de los Trabajadores
May Day, May 1st, is Dia de los Trabajadores. This is a day marked by parades, marches, occasional demonstrations and a speech to the country by the President similar to the "State of the Union Address" in the U.S. You can find something very different in Puerto Limon where they hold cricket matches.

Fiesta Patronale Desamparados
The city of Desamparados, just outside of San Jose, holds a street fair that features traditional food, music, and dance. It also holds tradiyional Costa Rican bullfights (bulls are unharmed but people are often gored)

Día de San Isidro Labrador
A number of towns around the country celebrates this on May 15, the Feast of San Isidro Labrador and the National Farmer's Day. Cattle parades are held in several places during the month of May. This celebration is held in San Isidro de Heredia, Perez Zeledon, San Isidro de Alajuela, Acosta, Coronado and Atenas, among others.
Activities include parades, football matches between priests, masses, rides, games, fireworks, and traditional food and dance. |
