Costa Rica Festivals and Celebrations
October
Fiesta Patronale San Francisco de Dos Rios
This is a big street fair that focuses on traditional culture, music, food, as well as "Tico style" bullfights where anyone (and everyone) gets into the bull ring with a mad bull and run around trying to get close the large, dangerous animals, often preceded with a few stiff drinks. Only dangerous to the people, not bulls.
Founding Day

Carnival
Carnival in Limon is Costa Rica's smaller version of Carnival en Rio. It is a week long celebration of the arrival of Columbus in the "new world". The celebration includes street fairs and music, food, dance, and beautifully colored and decorated costumes in the Carnival Parade. Held the week before, and through Columbus Day, October 12.
